Free on Zoom teaching on Naga Rituals 10am to 12pm
Due to the current spread of COVID-19 and related health safety concerns, the in-person gathering at Bön Shen Ling Temple in Woodside is cancelled. Rinpoche requests for everyone to individually recite the Tonpa Shenrab mantra OM MA TRI MU YE SA LE DHU at home more than 100 times with dedication for health and well-being during these times of concern and for beneficial work into the future, world peace and happiness. Please light three or more candle lights in home to bring positive energy into the immediate environment of practitioners.
Rinpoche shares his mantra recording here.
Tuesday, March 7, 2023 is the 15th day of the first month and the first full moon in the Tibetan lunar calendar. It is the birthday of Sangye Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche, founder of the Bön Religion and an enlightened master of this universe.
According to the ancient Bon tradition, this year marks the 18,041th anniversary of Tonpa Shenrab’s birth. Traditional Bonpo celebrations for the birthday of Tonpa Shenrab take place in the monastery and in each practitioner’s home.
In the monastery, prayers for world peace are conducted over two days from six o’clock in the morning until seven at night. On the evening of the second day, everyone circumambulates the temple chanting healing prayers. All then gather inside the temple to make light offerings for bringing light into a dark world with prayer.
Individuals at home clean their shrine area with care, make offerings to Tonpa Shenrab’s picture and place lots of candle light around the house. Reciting the prayer of Tonpa Shenrab, OM MA TRI MU YE SA LE DHU, at least 100 times helps practitioners avoid any negative actions by placing effort on prayers and beneficial work for the future, world peace and happiness. During Chotrul Dawa, the month of Tonpa Shenrab’s birth, all positive or negative deeds are multiplied 100,000 times. These dates are very auspicious, and everyone is called upon to do honorable things and perform more recitation, meditation, and accumulation of mantras.
In honor of this very special occasion, Chongtul Rinpoche will offer a free short teaching on the Rituals of the Nagas on Zoom from 10am-12pm ET.
While this teaching is offered free of charge, donations are appreciated and dāna for Rinpoche are accepted here.
